Stafford loans are usually not available for summer school costs. For information regarding financial aid for summer school, visit our summer page.

To receive a Stafford Loan at Texas Christian University:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (www.fafsa.ed.gov) and have the results sent to TCU (school code 003636).
  2. Check and complete your Requested Information items online at http://my.tcu.edu - click on Financial Aid, Requested Information. Complete any items there as soon as possible.
  3. You will receive a TCU Award Notification either by mail or electronically.
  4. Accept your financial aid online at my.tcu.edu then click on Financial Aid and Accept/ Decline Awards. If you have received a previous Stafford loan at TCU, this may be the last step in the process for you.
  5. FIRST TIME BORROWERS (and students who need to select a new lender) will receive a communication from TCU informing you that your loan application is ready for completion on Loans By Web.
  6. If you have previously received a Stafford loan at TCU, you may not have to return to Loans By Web for subsequent years. Please watch your TCU email and Requested Information online for information.

To complete the Loans By Web process online (FIRST TIME BORROWERS):

  1. Go to to complete your loan information and to select a lender. Please read the instructions carefully. If you cannot access your loan on Loans By Web, make sure that you have completed the steps above.
  2. We recommend that you electronically sign (e-sign) your loan application. You also have the option to print your promissory note, sign it and return it to your lender. DO NOT MAIL the material to TCU. Using the print and mail option will delay the delivery of your student loan funds.

Federal law states that a borrower may choose any lender participating in the FFELP program for a federal loan.

How do I choose a lender?

Federal Stafford Student Loan $3500 for freshmen. $4500 for sophomores. $5,500 per year for juniors & seniors. FAFSA required. Applicants must demonstrate financial eligibility. 6% fixed simple interest. Interest does not accrue while in school. Repayment begins 6 months after the date the student is no longer enrolled at least 1/2 time (or student graduates). Applicants must choose a lender. See TCU's lender recommendations listed on this website. Applicants must file FAFSA. Eligibility will be determined by the financial aid office and will be awarded to students who are eligible. Eligible students will be awarded this loan when they file the FAFSA.
Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan Individual amounts determined by the Financial Aid Office. FAFSA required, but financial need eligibility not required. 6.8% fixed simple interest. Interest accrues, but no payments required while in school. Repayment begins 6 months after the date the student is no longer enrolled at least 1/2 time (or student graduates). Applicants must choose a lender. See TCU's lender recommendations listed on this website. Applicants must file FAFSA. Eligibility will be determined by the financial aid office and will be awarded to students who are eligible. Eligible students will be awarded this loan when they file the FAFSA.
