Grants, scholarships, and Stafford loans are usually not
available for summer terms. Students will need to utilize the loan programs
listed below if assistance is needed for summer school costs. Students
must have a 2008-2009 FAFSA on file and be enrolled in at least 6 hours
in summer at TCU to apply for the PLUS and CAL loans. A student
must also be a Texas resident to qualify for CAL. Any student may explore
private loan options.
- All students needing funding for any summer school term may begin
applying for loans beginning April 1, 2008.
- Please apply for your summer needs ONLY by choosing a loan period
of 5/12/08 to 8/1/08 and by limiting your loan amount to the funding
you will need for that time period.
- Additional loan applications should be completed for fall and spring
costs once the student has received an award letter for those semesters.
Loan applications that are processed with the same lender
and within 90 days of one another will most often result in only one
inquiry to the students and/or co-signer’s credit. Check with
your lender to confirm their credit application policies. Important:
If you will be applying for a CAL loan for summer as well as a CAL for
fall/spring, you must wait a minimum of 2 weeks between these applications.
Parents of undergraduate, dependent students may have eligibility for
the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS).
This loan is available for any amount, up to the cost of attendance
minus other financial aid accepted by the student. The parent is the
borrower, and a must pass a credit check administered by the lender.

Students may apply for a Private Educational Loan.
These loans vary greatly in their terms and conditions depending on
the selected lender. TCU
provides a list of recommendations on our website for students who need
assistance in selecting a lender. These loans are available for
any amount up to the cost of attendance minus other financial aid accepted
by the student. The student borrower will likely require a credit-worthy
cosigner if the student’s credit is not sufficient.
The College Access Loan is available from the State
of Texas for students who are Texas residents. This loan is limited
to $10,000 for summer for undergraduate students at TCU. The student
borrower will require a credit-worthy cosigner if the student’s
credit is not sufficient. (Students also attending full-time in fall
and spring of the coming year may have eligibility for additional CAL
funding for those terms.) Apply
online here.
Please Note:
Credit approval information is not available to TCU prior
to disbursement of College Access Loans. Therefore, the TCU Financial
Services office will not be able to consider these funds in their
calculations of anticipated financial aid. You may be required to
make a payment on your student account prior to loan disbursement.
Processing time on state loan programs can be up to 10 weeks
and disbursements from the state can be delayed significantly past
university requested disbursement dates. During this extended processing
time, pending proceeds from this loan will NOT be considered when
calculating account balances and payment due amounts and finance charges
WILL be assessed. If you cannot make payments to TCU on or before
the billing due date, we strongly recommend that you select another
type of loan program.
Please be sure to periodically check "Requested Information"
on the financial aid website for any outstanding information needed
to process your application. Awards will not disburse until all outstanding
documents are submitted.
