FAFSA’s new IRS Data Retrieval Process

If your 2013-2014 FAFSA is selected for Verification:  you are required to request a tax transcript from the IRS and submit it to the TCU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

 

Important Information:

  • There are three ways to request your Tax Transcript:
    1. Online
    2. By phone
    3. By mail
  • Please make sure you request a TAX TRANSCRIPT.
    DO NOT request a Tax Account Transcript  unless advised by the Financial Aid Office that it is also required.
    DO NOT request a Record of Account because it cannot be used for financial aid verification purposes.
  • Copies of tax returns can no longer be accepted with the 2013-2014 FAFSA

To order a Free IRS Tax Return Transcript:

  • To Order online:
    Go to http://www.irs.gov/, then select the following:
    1. Click “Order a Tax Return Transcript”
    2. Click “Go get your Transcript” under Step 3
    3. Enter your SSN, Date of Birth, Street Address, and Zip Code
    4. Click Continue
    5. Select Transcript for Tax Year (i.e.2012)
    6. Click Continue
  • To Order by phone:
    Call the IRS at 1-800-908-9946, then select the following prompts:
    1. Follow the prompts to enter and verify SSN, SSN (if joint return both SSN’s required)
    2. Enter and verify number of street address
    3. Select Option 2 (Tax Return Transcript) and then enter “2012”
    4. Once information is validated, transcript/s will be mailed within 5 to 10 days from the IRS
  • To Order by mail:
    1. Complete Form 4506T-EZ (Request for Transcript of Tax Return)
    2. Form 4506T-EZ is available online at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506tez.pdf.  
    3. Mail to applicant address
    4. Your transcript/s will be mailed within 5 to 10 days from the IRS
